Here are a selection of comments from our Guest Book...

“A very special rural retreat with lovely sea and mountain views. A great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Imagine wining and dining around the kitchen table and then settling down in front of a log-burner to while away the evening hours.”
Marilyn and Ian Boumphrey, Wirral, February 2013

“Hey Julie,
What a lovely cosy cottage and such fantastic views. It was perfect for an “away from it all” winter break. Just adored the log fire and cooked some delicious meals on the Everhot. Would just love to have one.......  Definitely will not hesitate to recommend Pwll Melyn but on second thoughts don't want too many people to discover this gem. Cant wait to go back.”
 Many thanks,
Tirsh Grigor, Welford on Avon  Feb 2013

”Hi Julie,
We had a fabulous time . As one of your previous guests said, the photos don't do the cottage justice! We really loved the place...”

“Dear Julie,
We had an absolute wonderful stay at Pwll Melyn and would like to come and stay again. The only feed back is can we have another couple of pans for cooking next time!!

“Hi Julie,
Just a quick note to let you know that my partner and his friends really enjoyed their stay in 'Pwll Melyn'. The feedback I have heard is amazing, they say you're cottage is beautiful. Thank you for all your help, I will be sure to think of you next time we are planning a local break.

Best wishes,”

“Hi Julie
Happy New Year!
Just a quick note to thank you for letting us stay in your lovely cottage over New Year. Despite some windy, damp and misty weather (we didn’t see the view until Sunday!) we had a very relaxing and comfortable few days. . We hope to return in better weather sometime and will definitely recommend it to friends.
Kind regards”

“Dear Julie,
Just a quick note to say we had
such a lovely break. What a magical place (you must miss it!). There was plenty of weather - and as you know, the cottage is wonderful when it's buffeting outside. We really did appreciate the love and sensitivity that's gone into that conversion. The teenage littler girls' loved their princess bed linen and spent quite a lot of time up in the attic room playing games - when we weren't out walking (which is mostly what we did). Quite a few pre-breakfast scrambles - either up, or down! Wonderful, long headland walks watching the rain squalls and sun bursts race in off the Irish Sea. On our last night we took a barbecue down to Porth Oer to catch the sunset (missed it!) and feasted on the stars - right down to the sea's horizon.
Anyway, really, I'm just saying thank you - don't change a thing! Yet more satisfied customers.
With warmest good wishes,

Elizabeth, Philip and the girls Headington Oxford, October 2011

“Hi Julie,
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage, it was just perfect in every way.  We can only reiterate all the previous comments posted on your website and in your visitors book.  The only disappointment was the fact that we could not stay longer.  We will certainly recommend Pwll Melyn to our friends and family (although we don't want everyone to know about the best kept secret on the Llyn Peninsula, or we will never get a chance to re-book for ourselves!!)”
Jane & Colin - Llangollen, September 2011

“Hi, Julie

“Hi Julie,
Sitting outside Pwll Melyn in glorious sunshine sadly nearing the end of our stay! We've had a lovely holiday and have loved the cottage. I'm ready for another term at school....well nearly!!!... feeling chilled and relaxed. Imagine it was a hard decision to rent out your 'Bolthole' but we're glad you did!
Thanks and regards”

“Dear Julie,
I just wanted to let you know that we had a lovely week at the cottage. As seasoned cottage renters I am pleased to say that Pwll Melyn is up there with the best! We were very comfortable and at home and lacked nothing. The weather was mixed but did not stop us doing anything. We did not go too far afield (we didn't need to!) enjoying the walking and
the unspoilt beaches. I loved the Everhot! Hope to meet up with you sometime and perhaps plan another visit 'sans' children!!
With many thanks and best wishes.”

“Dear Julie,
We had a brilliant time and the cottage does you proud. The kids did wonder where their pirate and princess bedding was though but they soon forgot ;] I have recommended the cottage to family and friends and my sister is looking at the spare week at the end of July.
I don't know how many families stay at the cottage but maybe a few children's books in the bookshelf or games for the younger ones. The other thing would maybe be blackout blinds/curtains as the light comes in very early and wakes up little people at 5.30am but not a major issue, I managed to block up the windows in the main bedroom with cushions and so the baby slept very well. At home we have feather down pillows and duvets and said that especially in winter these would compliment cosy cottage feel well.Love the kitchen especially the stove seemed to always boil the kettle their instead of the electric one, the dishwasher is a bit temperamental as previous guests have commented on.
As i said these were on minor issues/ things we said we would do and did not detract from an excellent holiday in a beautiful part of the world, we will be looking to rebook next year and again the whole Smith clan say thank you.“

“Hi Julie,
We had the perfect stay thank you.  Comfortable, quiet and romantic with everything to hand, and stunning scenery all within a short walk or drive.  We will be back”

“Hi Julie,
This cottage is wonderful. It is very private and peaceful but within easy reach of wonderful beaches. We spent our days out and about, always enjoying our return at the end of the day to a cosy fire and immaculate and comfortable surrounds. We would certainly recommend it”

“Hello Julie,
Just a note to thank you so very much for letting us rent your wonderful cottage. We had such a great time even though the weather wasn't too kind to us!  You have done such a great job of restoring your cottage. Both myself and Dad loved your stove and we came back from a long days hiking to find perfectly cooked suppers waiting for us....of course we are now both wanting a stove the same! Please pass on a huge thanks to your housekeeper too, we have rented many cottages on the Llyn and yours was by far the cleanest, just lovely to arrive to. We will all surely be back next year and a huge thank you again,”
Mr and Mrs Webster and Family, Welshpool. February 2011

“Julie - we loved it! and wrote in the visitors book to that effect. I think if you wanted to quote us it was something like   "luv, luv, luv this place, it has great energy"
We came back and immediately went on your website to check future availability. Apart from the physical building and layout we really appreciated all the little touches and quality of the interior.
From a woman's point of view it was great to find hairdryers and magnifying mirrors. We just noticed the ball and kites as we were leaving which would have been great for Mac. Your guide on favourite beaches and maps were invaluable as we were complete strangers to the area.
I think you've created somewhere really fab to stay.”
Emma and Ben. Northwich, Cheshire. October 2010

“Hi Julie,
The cottage was fantastic and we had a wonderful weekend - just not long enough!  You have a beautiful and a well equipped cottage in a great location. Really peaceful and ideal for getting away from it all ! Everything was just perfect for us and we will certainly be wanting to return in the future !
Thank you for letting us rent it and we would have no problems in recommending it to others although if too many people get to know about this little "gem" then it may become difficult to book !
Best regards,”

“Dear Julie
Pwll Melyn is such a good place to stay. The cottage facilities are second to none and you have managed to beat every other self-catering holiday(20 years of going to Pen Llyen)” and I don’t think we had to buy a single piece of extra equipment. The range oven took a bit of getting used to but Jackie and I persevered and learned how to have porridge every morning.
Best wishes,”

“We would like to thank you for the opportunity of staying in Pwll Melyn for seven days in early September.  The location is magnificent and although we live in a quiet part of the country in Gloucestershire, the silence there can only be described on a windless day as ‘deafening’ – we found ourselves  clearing our throats or humming some ditty just to check that our hearing was still intact. With the property situated  at about 190m above sea level, we found the views magnificent and the walks exhilarating – well I did but it was difficult to coax Jude away from the tranquillity of the cosy patio.

The property itself is brilliant and very well appointed and although we had a warm week I’m sure it is as cosy and welcoming in the more inclement months too with its logburner and Everhot range. It was comforting too to find comfortable furniture in all of the rooms. I have a relatively large saloon car and getting through the gates each time was an exercise in nano-driving – good parking facilities though.

I look forward to returning to Pwll Melyn in the future for more tranquillity and adventure.

“We had a very relaxing and peaceful week at Pwll Melyn. The weather was mixed but even when the mist came down and the rain came in it was a lovely cosy warm cottage to be stuck in, either by the woodburner or next to the 'Ever Hot' range which we loved cooking on.  The interior and furnishings are thoughtfully chosen and really add a home from home feel.

The master bedroom has a stunning new metal frame king size bed with a very comfortable memory foam mattress Our thanks to Nia for bringing us the logs round in the rain and keeping us well stocked with logs during the week.   We hope to return very soon.”

" From the moment of my first enquiry, Julie Dove was warm, welcoming and helpful.  As to this delightful cottage, I fell in love with it immediately.  You can guarantee to feel totally "at home".  Internally the character and atmosphere is delightful.  I found the cottage clean and tastefully decorated to a very good standard.  Also provided is a lovely range cooker, barbeque, patio and garden furniture.  I even managed to get the nearest Asda to deliver a home shop delivery, for which I was very impressed.
To add credit the cottage is located in an area of outstanding beauty, it's quiet with breathtaking views within a few minutes walk with internet provided.  The sea can be seen from the patio door.  Excellently positioned for coastal and Snowdonia National Park walks of varying degrees.  The bookcase contains a few very good guides and routes.  Also very close to Hells Mouth, Port Ysgo, Aberdaron, Abersoch and spoilt for choice of many lovely quality beaches.   We visited many places because there are stacks of activities to do, all within a short drive away if you are not particularly interested in the sea.  There are boat trips to nearby Bardsey Island with the opportunity to see dolphins, seals, birds and maybe the odd whale.  The kids can be entertained with action activities at nearby Glasfryn Parc, including Go Karting, Quad biking Archery, Wakeboarding , Archery and Surfing and  Fishing.  On researching there's also rock-climbing, white water rafting, horse-riding as well as other numerous activities for the adventurous, all within a short distance by car.  We also visited Portmeirion (a beautiful Italian styled village on the slopes to the beach where The Prisoner series was filmed).
Nia and Brett, the self-sufficient farming neighbours and caretakers to the cottage are welcoming and helpful.  Brett booked my family a table at Aberdaron for a carvery the Sunday lunchtime at the delightful restaurant with a balcony on the beach.  He invited my  teenage sons to join him in some of the farming and fishing he does.
The Cottage can be a little difficult to locate if you've never been there before so the following map reference is taken from the Ordnance Survey Explorer Map (Orange) No. 253: -  SH 227 281 (where the 1 is marginally too high, perhaps should be 0.5) if being a perfectionist. The gate entrance to the cottage is just around the corner from the fork bend in the road.  I most certainly would love to go back to the cottage as it was disappointing having to leave it”

Have got back from our holiday. We had an amazing weekend -  the weather was very kind to us. We loved the cottage, the views and the area! We had some great walks - lovely and peacefull!  We had a nice meal in the Ty Newydd overlooking the sea. We had fish and chips one evening in Aberdaron and ate them on the beach at Whistling Sands - lovely. We went around Plas yn  Rhiw one morning -  that was nice it is a gorgeous house with stunning views. On the way home we stopped at Portmerion for our lunch. That was a nice end to our short break- we felt we had been away for a week! Thank you very much for letting us stay at your cottage.”

“Hi Julie and Paul,
We have had a fantastic week here at Pwll Melyn, thank you so much, the cottage is lovely, the location is great and we've been lucky with the weather (swam in the sea nearly every day!), definitely somewhere we'd like to come back to.”
Best wishes, Matthew Thomas. May 2010

Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at Pwll Melyn. What a fantastic little cottage in amazing surroundings. We didn’t really know what to expect but were totally blown away with it when we arrived. Everything was clean and tidy and it was so well equipped. The two shower/bathrooms were perfect for two families sharing.
This has to be one of the nicest places we have ever been and I would most definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to get away in North Wales.
Booking was so simple and the arrangement with the key just about sums up the whole relaxed atmosphere. I really cant praise that little cottage enough and we are already thinking of booking for a week sometime.
A big `THANK YOU` and we hope to be booking with you again soon.“

“Hi Julie,
Just a short message to tell you what a great break my family and I had at your cottage during Easter. We liked the cottage as soon as we arrived and became more attached to it the longer we stayed. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was supplied and there are some really nice details all the way through the house. Rhiw turned out to be a great base for exploring what is a spectacular part of Wales. We are all now trying to figure out when we can visit again.”

“Dear Julie,
We loved the cottage and when the mist lifted we enjoyed the fabulous views. The walk down to the headland with it's stunning scenery was a favourite evening walk - especially when Katie discovered the group of ponies wandering about.  l will recommend Pwll Melyn to friends.”
